Intro to No Longer Ignorant Blog #1

I have just started creating this blog out of my own ignorance. It is a way for me to learn and study politics using my writing skills. I am an avid researcher and writer, but I am ashamed to admit that I have gotten very lazy about keeping up with current events.

It is so embarrassing always being the last to know what is going on in the news and so forth. (In my defense I have had a hard couple of years. I have always been so self-absorbed in my own problems I have a hard time making time to watch the news.

Despite my ignorance, I do have my good qualities. For instance, I was always taught high values such as the following:

• If you don't like what is going on write letters to your congressman.
  
Never trust the media completely, but do your own research on situations. Never be afraid to speak up. Otherwise, that right could be taken away from you.

• I don't mean to be ignorant and I don't want to be ignorant. I just am afraid to listen to the news a lot of times because I am afraid to be infiltrated with a bunch of lies.


• I should defend the media in some ways though-seeing how I am a writer. Some news stations and so on do a very excellent job of covering the news. They are not all bad.


• However, I don't always think watching the news can help me make an educated decision about who to vote for. Sometimes it can help me decide who not to vote for, but not who to vote for.

I was taught these values. No wonder I am so financially poor right now.
